Gymnosperm vs Angiosperm
In this picture we see a Gymnosperm on the left and an Anigosperm on the right. Gymnosperm broken down in greek means (gymno) - naked (sperma) - seed. The gymnosperms are plants that produce seeds in open space of cones. Gymnosperms are more primative than Angiosperms, they are beloved for their compact forms, rich colors and have needle or scale like shapes. All Conifers are classified as gymnosperms including the example that Sam is holding it' s from a Juniper tree we stop to look at. The Goldenrod on the right is an example of an angiosperm. Angiosperm if you break down the word into two parts it means angieion( vessela) & Sperma ( seeds) Angiosperms are the largest group of species and most commonly used in gardens because they flower. They are more sophisticated than gymnosperms in that the seeds from theses plants are formed in side and live in little vessels, they are also able to adapt to survive in wide variety of conditions.
Both of these examples are expressing polarity, apical dominance, in which at the top of the plant small bundles of cells meristem cells at the apex are telling the plant grow in pyramid like fashion.
