Excerpt from Chapter 3, The Glitch:
EnderE2006 grimaced at his old laptop. “Not again!” he moaned, and prepared to do another hard reboot by unplugging and then yanking out the computer’s battery. Suddenly, the screen went from solid blue back to his usual familiar desktop loaded with skins, mods and resource packs downloaded from the Internet.
“Every time I play my first world, it crashes,” he spoke towards the tablet computer on his desk. EnderE2006 always played the game with his cousin by video chat on Saturday afternoons, and now his computer had crashed. Meanwhile, DarkOcelot4444 was winning a battle to the death on a multiplayer server, gleefully defeating his competitors thanks to a newly purchased rank.
“Blast you!” shouted DarkOcelot4444 with anguish, as an even higher ranked player on the server dropped out of a tree and struck him with a diamond sword. “Why don’t you come play with me on the server?” he asked. “I could sure use some of your enchanted armor”, he added.
“I like playing in my old world sometimes,” EnderE2006 answered. “Besides, I’m sure you will figure out a way to win, cousin,” he continued.
“Whoo whee!!” said DarkOcelot4444, as he drank an invisibility potion and took revenge against the player with a diamond sword. “Never mind!” said DarkOcelot4444. “I won again! Ha ha ha!”. DarkOcelot4444 was one of the toughest competitors on the server. When EnderE2006 joined him to form a team, they were almost unstoppable.
EnderE2006 opened up his mod folder and noticed that an unfamiliar mod called Singularity was installed. He deleted it, and then decided to check his texture pack folder as well. “What is this? Another one? I must have been hacked!” said EnderE2006.
