A Notch-inspired character named "the Designer" plays a short but critical role in my book's conclusion:
The Designer was glad to get back to his personal computer at home, where he felt most comfortable. The console negotiations were exhausting him. He wanted to keep every platform as open and free as possible, but it was tough explaining these concepts to others who were more cynical.
He had loved playing in a sandbox as a kid. Within the sandbox, there were no limits on your creativity or potential. Although the Designer eventually outgrew the sandbox, he never lost his inspiration. When he became a game designer, he kept the ideals of free roaming and non-linear gameplay alive. But just like every sandbox is limited by the amount of sand available, the Designer was also limited by realities like computer processors and Internet download speeds.
