Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year ...
… to all of my Flickr friends.
I made this nativity scene when our two boys were aged 4 and 2 in the mid-1980s. The plans appeared in Practical Woodworking magazine in the November issue. How on earth they thought anyone would have the time to create this for Christmas, I really don’t know. I started it in January and by the following Christmas I’d completed the stable plus Joseph, Mary & Jesus! It wasn’t until the Christmas after that, that it was complete.
You can’t get the size and scale from the photo so if you’re interested, the stable is 70cm wide by 33cm deep and 36cm high. The king standing at the far right is 16cm high and the total width of stable and figures is 95cm. The lanterns in the stable and hay loft are doll’s house lighting.
It’s packed away carefully each New Year and has come out every Christmas for the last 34 years or so.
