Land for the new workhouse buildings was bought in 1839. William Flockton was appointed as architect. The buildings were planned to accommodate 500 inmates. The original buildings were completed in 1844.

 

In 1929, the institution became Nether Edge Hospital. This building became part of Nether Edge Grammar School (1927-1958). The site was converted for housing 2000-03.
