[102638] Bears of Sheffield : No 43 - Superdoop Trouser
Bears of Sheffield, 2021.
The Children’s Hospital Charity.
61 bear sculptures, each uniquely decorated by artists, have descended on Sheffield’s parks and open spaces, creating one of the biggest mass participation arts events the city has ever seen.
No 43 - Superdoop Trouser.
Location : Fulwood Road, Broomhill.
Artist : Jim Stoten.
Sponsor : Tesco Convenience Area 713.
For the design of his Bear, artist Jim Stoten really just wanted to think of an idea that meant that he could be free to just do a painting, which led him to the idea of wrapping a flat painting around the shape of the Bear. After deciding on this, he chose to use the Bear as a canvas for a portrait of some kind, without really thinking about the Bear itself.
The process of thinking about how this portrait would interact with every surface of the Bear, was such that it became necessary to build a portrait out of an abstract pattern.
