Park House Pit Monument, 1884.

Grade ll listed.

 

The figure of the weeping woman in white marble formerly stood on top of a tall quatrefoil pillar with ballflower decoration - now removed.

 

This monument is in memory of the forty five men and boys who lost their lives in an explosion at Park House Pit, Clay Cross, November 7th 1882 and was erected by their fellow workmen and the public 1884.

 

On the west and east sides are the names of the deceased.
