Six of these Optare Solos were allocated to Newcastle depot during 2000 to take over services between the town and Clayton, becoming in the process the garage's first low floor buses. Service rehashes (read:contractions) mean that today the Clayton route (note singular nowadays) is operated with larger buses on a much-reduced frequency, and so the Solos are to be found operating between Newcastle, Silverdale and Audley on the 94 and 96 corridors, along with interworked service 24/24A.
