Four brand new Mercedes await entry into service at PMT's Newcastle depot
1996 saw 24 Mercedes-Benz 709Ds with Plaxton Beaver bodies join PMT's fleet. Most were P-registered as shown by this line-up of four at Newcastle depot prior to entering service. They still await fitment of ticket machines and lack both operator's license and road tax. They were used on the Clayton group of services, routes which received new buses on a regular basis culminating in a batch of Optare Solos at the beginning of the new millenium.
