First PMT Blue Bird schoolbuses

Eleven of these arrived with PMT in 2002 for use at a newly set up base at Wrexham. When delivered they differed slightly from how they entered service, principal difference being that the American-style 'School Bus' lettering above the windscreen was later covered by a bi-lingual sticker. Several were stored at Crewe depot for some time before movement to Wrexham, where they were intially based on a rented section of a lorry park in Llay. Issues with security here, with problems speculated to be caused by disgruntled operators who had lost work to First, led to the depot being moved to another location.

Initially drivers were 'loaned' from other depots to crew these buses before part-time staff were recruited. Drivers came from Adderley Green (1); Chester (1); Crewe (2); Newcastle (2) and Rock Ferry (3). The tenth bus was driven by a supervisor seconded from First Manchester and the eleventh a spare. Also attached to the operation was a seconded fitter, who quickly alienated himself from the drivers involved.
