Electric VDL Citea with Arriva in Limburg

The Netherlands leads Western Europe in the deployment of battery-electric buses on a fleet percentage basis. As would be expected, manufacturer VDL is well represented in that work. Among those it has delivered are a significant number of Citea models to Arriva in Limburg, such as bus 9624 seen here in Maastricht. It is a Citea LE-115 example, which presumably puts it at 11.5m in length. On the roof can just about be seen opportunity charging equipment, which no doubt works with an inverted pantograph to rapidly replenish the onboard batteries. Indeed, a press release by VDL states that such vehicles can cover over 400km in a day despite having only 180kW/h of energy storage. The battery-electric Citea fleet with Arriva in Limburg operates alongside almost identical diesel examples.

Here the bus is seen outside Maastricht's NS railway station operating a journey on route 2 to De Heeg.
