Mercedes-Benz eCitaro at work in Fürth
The battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro debuted a few years ago and has started to find its way into a number of fleets in Germany, in both standard and articulated form. A first demonstrator for the UK recently landed. It is undoubtedly a very clever vehicle, but it will be interesting to see how something that is built in Germany wil compete with those examples that come from China.
The spiel from representatives of the eCitaro's manufacturer is impressive, however, and the first example for the UK is equally so. Talk of solid-state batteries is also intriguing and some of the work done to maximise energy efficiency appears to be very advanced, as one would expect from Mercedes-Benz. Fürth in Bavaria is among the German cities to have taken the eCitaro. This example is seen outside the Hauptbahnhof.
