Health authorities on Thursday [17 November] recommended that NSW residents wear masks indoors and on public transport if social distancing wasn’t available as “it gives you and any vulnerable people who may be near you an extra layer of protection”.

Today, Sydney welcomed about 800 COVID-positive passengers, either asymptomatic, or mildly symptomatic, disembarking from the Majestic Princess. Apparently, passengers were asked not to take public transport to their destination, and ALL were masked.
www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/cruise-ship-with-hundreds-of-...
And here is the rant (I am not a medic!):
How things have changed since the arrival of the Ruby Princess in 2020 when the whole pandemic started for 'us' and we were tested, sick, isolated, hospitalized, some dying, vaccinated, masked, businesses and schools closed, the pandemic debated on TV, restrictions for public gatherings put in place with threat of fines.
And then, in NSW, there was Gladys o'clock, epidemiologists, health ministers, other officials and trusted other health experts drumming the seriousness of this virus into us ... And now, with the fourth wave looming, or here, all but gone out the window ...
I don't understand what mildly symptomatic means;
Mildly spreading, mildly infectious,, mildly sick, high/low virus load, or what? Must be some kind of newspeak again when one doesn't want to admit the infection rate is out of control and people are left to their own resources (called self-empowerment), to make the 'right' decision, with 'right' meaning different things to different people. Though, it appears the situation is 'serious' enough to suggest to passengers not to take public transport, which makes sense.
Since a bus terminal, a train station, as well as a ferry terminal, are right 'next door' to the cruise liner terminal, parking at the Opera House is quite expensive, and parking at other places in the city is usually packed with day-trippers, and others, there just maybe the temptation, once out of sight of officials, to catch public transport anyway.
People, whatever you do, if ill with COVID, even mildly ill, mildly symptomatic, please be responsible, isolate, and don't infect others. Fully vaccinated people can also get ill, infect others and, as explained below, less seriously ill may be serious for vulnerable and immunocompromised people.

With close to 93% of the population fully vaccinated with two doses, and booster vaccination on the way, why are the numbers in countries with the highest vaccination rates still rising?
I am confused.

Australia had the benefit of hindsight and experiences of other countries, has a high fully vaccinated population and yet, something has gone terribly wrong and positive cases are increasing rapidly. Supermarket shelves still bare due to too many people reporting in covid positive and staying home. Will isolation time be further reduced in order to get the potentially sick to stack shelves? 'We' watched as other countries opened up and letting it rip - and haven't learnt a thing. Yes, it was for the economy, but it didn't work out for the best.

Most people now fully vaccinated, more and more tested, politicians talking gobbledygook, and the numbers are increasing. There must be something else at play. Ok, the solution appears to be to vaccinate all children. And if that doesn't work to bring the numbers down, make sure all household cats and dogs are vaccinated.
I love the idea of getting fined when not reporting positive RAT results to authority. RAT kits are still as rare as hens' teeth, and if they are available they are so expensive that you don't want to buy them anyhow.
Our Premier Perrottet admitted fines would be difficult to enforce. Duh 😂
It's not nauseating anymore. Perrottet o'clock is now the amusement of the day.
I won't be rushing out trying to get a RAT kit. I really don't know why, when asymptomatic, people would want to find out whether or not they are positive. It just adds to unnecessary expense and fear.
And, how does one responsibly dispose of all these used RAT kits?
January 10, 2022 Petri Dish Australia tally
Good Lord! What happened? 'We' dropped back to position 46!
In NSW, RAT kit figures won't be taken into account until 12 January. Whether people will report RAT results remains to be seen. Also, there are already reports that positive tests may be counted twice. So, figures don't reflect the real situation anymore. Hooray for politicians who may be used to playing with figures and shifting goal posts to make figures and reports look better.
Btw.: There were no busses this morning to take my nurse daughter to work. Too many sick drivers ...
Carparking $50.00 a day ...
Should we expect nurses to pay $50.00 a day for parking for the privilege to look after Covid and other sick patients?

Leadership has been failing us and now it is 'Personal responsibility'. First, we were bombarded with rates of deaths until we were scared enough to get vaccinated. Now, we get sick despite being vaccinated and told to treat at home with Panadol and Nurofen and not go to ED. Problem: Panadol and Nurofen sold out due to panic buying.
My wish: Just, please, Please, PLEASE - TAKE PREMIER PERROTTET OFF AIR! I want to watch the news, just without that man. Even a few seconds of him opening his mouth are nauseating.

The situation is well and truly out of control, more and more responsibility shifted to maybe noncomplying and increasingly confused people, being asked to test with unavailable RAT kits, ring overworked, also confused GP's for advice, and stay away from EDs unless really sick, which may be a matter of interpretation. Imho, the mess started with NSW's Premier trying to be smarter than anyone else, 'opening up' and 'letting it rip'. Listening to his rant on TV is nauseating. Instead of boosting the economy, it has slowed it down with an increasingly sick workforce which now is being ordered back to work earlier than previously and getting even more people infected. Australia had plenty of time to watch other countries and now we are heading in the same direction. Sick, hospitals under pressure, and listening to politicians' gobbledygook. Oh yes, on top of that, we now have the stuff up with Novak Djokovic. Embarrassing.

Latest news: Those with positive RAT's do not have to present for a PCR test anymore, which means, these positive cases will not be counted in the National tally anymore, which means, our figures will be skewed and look better than they really are.
Shifting goal posts, changing the way of counting and testing, etc. that's what our Governments are doing well.
About the RATs: Provided one can get them. They are as rare as hens' teeth. And yet, we are being told to do a test if one is feeling unwell and not ring the ambulance.

Asymptomatic health care workers can now be ordered back to work after 5 days isolation. This, despite asymptomatic people still being able to transmit the virus. The relatively low hospital admissions are pretty irrelevant, as it needs medical staff to monitor the sick at home by telephone consultation. Moral of the story: Try not to get sick because there may not be enough staff to monitor thousands of sick people!

NSW Premier Perrottet, as well as Health Minister Brad Hazard, “We’re all going to get Omicron”, appearing not too concerned about the rising numbers as long as the economy is going well.
Mid 2021, Australia was in position 144/224 with only about 1,000 deaths/26 mio. population.
The tally below of the dramatic increase in cases is mainly due to the new NSW Premier, Dominique Perrottet, deciding to ‘open up’ the most populated state, on 15 December, for the sake of the economy, Christmas cheers for labs making lots of money, the business community in general, and hospitals with overworked and underpaid nurses, most of whom are women.

As our PM said: It's not a race! Though, we are keen to get closer to the world leaders. Shortage of N95 mask, requirements to do a RAT test despite kits sold out everywhere, PCR testing centres closed due to labs not coping anymore, told not to go to ED and watch 'symptoms' at home.

Interestingly, on the odd occasion, politicians quote Israel, which is in position 34, with about 884 deaths/1 mio. as a good example to follow. I don't quite get it ...

Booster debacle due date:
Fed. Government advice letter received 20.12.21: 6 months
NSW Health: 5 months wanting to bring it forward to 4 months.
