Watercolour - Maple leaf_P1110869

More leaves for my online course ...

Paper:

Arches med. 300gms A4

Palette:

WN Yellow ochre PY43

DS Pyrrol Crimson PR264

DS Perylene Green PBk31

Note to self:

Should have used Burnt Sienna + Pyrrol Crimson mix for the reddish colour on the leaf which may have matched the colour on the real leaf better.

I stretched the sheet on a stretcher (this is still on the stretcher) because most of this is wet-in-wet.

The stretcher

I removed the canvas from a wooden stretcher and am stretching the watercolour paper on it. This makes the paper nice and flat when it is dry (and would make a nice drum...) One advantage of stretching the paper on a stretcher is that, especially for wet-in-wet, one can touch the underside and if the underside is still cool to touch they paint it still wet. And, instead of aiming the hairdryer on the paint, the paper can be dried from the bottom if necessary. For >A3 staples may be needed, either directly on the paper or on the gummed paper. Wooden stretchers are also lighter than a solid board.

NOW I might have a go at the tulips ... :)
