The RLS Legacy from Treasure Planet

At long last, I finally get to share my dream project! My recreation of the RLS Legacy from Disney's 2002 film Treasure Planet. A space-faring take on Robert Lewis Stevenson's (RLS, get it?) renowned novel Treasure Island, the film's art style has had a huge influence on my building style for many years. The blend of sci-fi and traditional nautical shapes and vessels has inspired my Cienasis projects as early as 2015.

I have long wanted to build this ship, but was often daunted by the scale and how the style would transition into the brick. Last summer I took the dive and started designing it digitally as my 'spare no expense' project for Brickworld 2024. I'll share more about the design process in an upcoming instagram post.

The final result is something I am incredibly proud of! The final ship stands 40" tall and 39" tip to tail (102cm x 100cm) and I would estimate it is somewhere between 3000 and 4000 pieces. I displayed the build for the first time at Brickworld Chicago 2024 where I was overjoyed at how many people instantly recognized it from the movie. It also won Best Airship!

Special thanks to many of my OrphanLUG friends for input on the design during the building process and a HUGE shout-out to Markus Rollbühler for the otherworldly photo edit. The herculean effort of making it look like the display stands never existed does not go unappreciated.

P.S. I'd love to claim submit this for SHIPtember as it is over 100 studs long, but it took much longer than 1 month to complete ;)
