“Let Me Breathe”
by V.G. Grace
Let me breathe within a valley of kindness;
let me breathe amongst a people full of love.
Let me breathe where the air is sweet
like honey;
where pain’s forgotten history
and humanity is humanity’s beloved.
Let me breathe surrounded by an eternal garden,
planted
within untroubled soil;
let me breathe the perfume of tranquility,
instead of
old civilization’s old sweat and turmoil.
The promise of my exquisite hopes
are beckoning;
as wide and never-ending as the sea.
‘Till then, I breathe beneath my burdens;
not quite prisoner,
not quite free.
