On a day that began with light rain showers after an evening of storms, a friend and I paid visit to a large cypress swamp. Along the flooded perimeter we rolled logs and kicked up muck in hopes of finding a mudsnake. Shortly after we began, the sun began to peak out from behind the clouds and became more consistent. Maybe 20 minutes after starting, I rolled a long, thin log half in the water and half out and noticed this small snake lethargically try to crawl away as I did so. This snake attempted escape at every opportunity and was released after photos.
