Spotted Salamander (Ambystoma maculatum)

A young salamander flipped under a heavily saturated log on a raised section of bottomland habitat flanked by flooded forest on a sunny, warm day. While initially lethargic, it quickly came to life after it was handled. Also observed were several smallmouthed salamanders. Leopard frogs, chorus frogs, and spring peepers were heard occasionally chorusing in the background.
