In its second year, the downsized RWD A-body intermediate Malibu had 127,212 coupes including 41,848 base coupes, 60,751 Classic coupes, plus 25,213 Classic Landau coupes.
The Classic package included added sound insulation, wheel and sill moldings, courtesy lights, glove box and ashtray. A vinyl roof covering on the rear passenger compartment, black center pillar and sport wheels were on the Classic Landau coupe package. Engines included a standard 3.3 liter/200 V6 (94 HP), optional 4.4 liter/267 (125 HP) and 5.0 liter/305 (160/170 HP) V8s, with the 3.8 liter/231 V6 (115 HP) standard in California and 5.0 V8 optional.
