Upper Hack Lift

The Lackawanna Railroad built this new single track lift span on the Boonton Line at the Hackensack River in Secaucus, NJ at a cost of $5,500,000 to replace an aging two-track 1901 swing span. Upper Hack Lift was completed and opened in March 1959. In 1963 the Erie Main Line was rerouted onto Upper Hack using the former Boonton Line. NJ Transit continues to use this bridge for Main Line commuter service between Suffern and Hoboken via Paterson.
