SAAB 99
The SAAB 99 was SAABs first entry into the mid-size, middle class market. The 99 was a significantly bigger car that the 96 that preceded it. The 99 commenced production in 1968 and ended production in 1984.
Designed for it's home market, Sweden, the 99 features styling themes developed out of it's parent's aeronautical endeavours: - deep, wrap around windscreen, tapered tail in plan an elevation and low nose.
The car featured a 1.75 and later 1.85 4-cylinder engines from Triumph (essentially half a 3.5 litre V8). The car drove through the front wheels, the additional weight of the engine over the driven wheels helping with winter road traction, making the 99 an excellent rally car.
The replacement for the 99, the 900, though larger, was essentially a development of the 99, though with the addition of 3 more body styles, the 4-foor sedan, 5-door Kombie-Coupe, and the convertible, joining the 2-door sedan and 3-door Kombie-Coupe that were available in the 99.
This Lego 911 2-door sedan has been modelled for Flickr LUGNuts 60th build challenge, our 5th birthday, to the 41st build challenge, - 'Snowed In'
