'Forth of July' Cruiser

Happy 4th of July to all you Americans out there! (US of A)

Built for Flickr LUGNuts 57th Build Challenge - 'From Mild to Wild' - this challenge takes a model 'Plain Jane' from last moth's 56th build challenge and changes it into something a bit wilder. In this case I have taken my lego miniland scale 1956 Oldsmobile 88 Holiday Hardtop Coupe and turned it into the 'Forth of July Cruiser' for, well, the Forth of July or 'Independence Day' as it is also called.

An alternate names, for all the Monarchists out there is the 'Insurrection Party Mobile'. I jest of course!

Modifications, in a 'Stars and Stripes' theme, from the standard car include hood (bonnet), roof and trunk (boot) finished in navy blue. The roof features the 5-point star so prevalent on the flags of the United States - though just one. The diagonal feature line on the rear fender is used as a guide for additional red and white striping, also featured in US flags. The car also has modified wheels and tyres in a lower profile.

Still featured is the 'bonnet bird' , from the time when hood mascots reflected the aspiration of sleekness and speed of the era.

And what can be more good old apple pie American, than cruising in a slice of classic Detroit V8 iron?

Unfortunately, though the 1956 Oldsmobile 88 hails from the zenith of Oldsmobile history, the brand is no longer in production. The car though, reminds the world that once upon a time, Detroit was king.
