Short story - though the Cyclone is undoubtedly a striking looking car, many of the technological features incorporated into the car are just as fascinating, including radars and highway cruise following devices - technology only recently introduced to cars 60 years later.
The Cyclone was also the sign-off car for the long-time, outgoing GM Styling Chief, Harley Earl.
The car is shown here in one of its intermediate configurations. The originally white paint had been replaced with silver, the fins are shown at the full height, prior to them being trimmed in tune with the 1960s idiom. The rear lights were in the trim panel beside the rear licence plate (later moved to the rocket pods).
The car is preserved today with these additional changes, and is still as dramatic as it was when first seen in 1959.
Being October, which had always been the LUGNuts anniversary month, this GM Motorama 1959 Cadillac Cyclone XP-74 Concept Car has been built to the 16th challenge theme 'What a Concept'.
