Ford KJ Laser Liata Hatchback (1994)

The forth generation Ford Laser KJ series launched in 1994 as the mechanical twin of the Mazda Familia / 323 model.

The styling of the Laser differed from the Mazda models in sheetmetal and detail.

In Australia, the Laser was sold in three bodystyles, sedan, 5-door hatch, shown here, and called Laser Liata, and a 3-foor hatch, called Laser Lynx.

As with previous Laser models, the car depolyed inline 4-cylinder engines mounted transversely, driving the front wheels. In the case of the KJ series, two DOHC 16v engines were available in 1.6L (80 kW) and 1.8L (92 kW) capacities.

The Laser was also sold in Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and Latin America, each market build a subset of models as appropriate for that market.

The KJ - KM Laser model was replaced in 1998 by the squared-off KN series, which differed to the equivalent Mazda model than had previously been the case.
