Ford Escort MkI Panel Van

April 1968 saw the introduction of the Panel Van body style for the MkI Ford Escort (launched in 1967) - ahead of even the four-door saloon.

The MkI Escort was nicknamed the 'Dogbone' because of the shape of the narrow grille connecting the headlamps.

This particular Escort Panle Van, in bright orange, and wearing racing roundels is a recreation of a real car which is frequently in my (Ford Motor Company) carpark. I haven't quite worked out who it belongs to, but I think it is one of the skilled trade guys here in Product Devlopment.

The Escort MkI main market was Europe, where it was built in both Germany (Saarlouis) and Great Britain (Dagenham and Halewood), and also in a couple of other sites, but was also built around the world in various locations including here in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Israel.

The MkI was replaced in 1975 by the MkII of the same basic configuration, but with a much more squared styling.
