Alfa Romeo Spider (916 Series)

The Alfa Romeo 916-Series Spider launched in 1993, replacing the nearly 30-year old predecessor (as seen in the Dustin Hoffman film 'The Graduate'). The new Spider was paired with the GTV coupe, both having a production run of approximately ten years.

The 916-Series used the FIAT Group Tipo-II Platform, also used in the Alfa Romeo 156 sedan and wagon. The platform used deployed FWD, and was available with inline-four and vee-six engines of Alfa Romeo design.

The wedgy bodywork of both Spider and GTV was developed at Pininfarina, and was distinguished by four small round headlamps, which were actually two large rectangular units which shone through four smaller holes cut in the sheetmetal.

The 916 Spider was replaced by the 939 Series model in 2004 which was based on a new FWD and AWD architecture (the GM/FIAT Premium platform) shared with the 939-Series GTV and Alfa Romeo 159.

This Lego mini-land scale Alfa Romeo Spider (916-Series) has been created for Flickr LUGNuts' 11th anniversary to the 28th Build Challenge theme, - "The Animal Kingdom", - for vehicles named after animals - or some other animal connection.
