Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Drophead Coupe - 1957 (H. J. Mulliner)
The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud formed the basis for the marques standard cars, including the Bentley S-Type, from 1955-1966 in three series.
The Silver Cloud was still a body-on-frame design, which permitted the design and manufacture of unique coachbuilt bodies (specials), though a majority of cars were delivered with standard four-door body work by the Pressed Steel Company. The closures - hood (bonnet), doors and trunk (bootlid) were produced in aluminium alloy to reduce weight.
The car shown here was produced by coachbuilder H.J. Mulliner on the Series I Cloud (as fitted with the inline six-cylinder engine). The car is a full-convertible, but titled as a 'Drophead Coupe' as was the tradition or British coachbuilders prior to the war.
The car adopts the styling cues of the standard Silver Cloud I body on the shorter of the two wheelbases.
