Linotopia - 1964 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop Lowrider - 'Leap Frog'

Another Linotopia homage. This time to another early Lino creation 'Leap Frog', a 1964 customised Chevrolet Impala 2-door Hardtop with hydraulic suspension.

In Lino's original he even included an electric motor-based jumping mechanism, which had a tendency to dismantle the car quite quickly - but a marvel nonetheless for our artistic, non-engineery leader.

Why is the Leap Frog homage here today?

As part of LUGNuts 6th birthday challenge, creatively named - 'LUGNuts 6th Anniversary', an opportunity to revisit any challenge from the past 12 months, or from any of the 71 previous build challenges. Here Leap Frog celebrates challenge 58, - 'Order by Numbers' to the sub-theme number 3 'Some Good ol' American Muscle', with a healthy dose of challenge 25, - 'I Wanna Be Like You'. It seems that when we originally ran challenge 25, everybody did really want to be like Lino, and it was a clear indication that his Lego automotive creations were highly respected, and held aloft as a highlight of artistic and creative subculture within Lego building, and a key attraction to the LUGNuts group.

Good stuff Lino!

Personally I have found in recreating the essence of a Lino-mobile, that the artistic process is really stretched (for me), and that the object becomes much more 'art' than the 'science' that I normally take into the exercise.
