As I was walking through the parking lot of Butterfly World the other day, I spotted this grizzly character approaching me. it was a somewhat mediocre day of shooting butterflies due to the breeze and sun.

I asked him how he was doing and he asked me if it was worth 25.00 to go into there and shoot butterflies. He was sporting his Canon 7D with a 55-250mm lens. I assured him it was worthwhile, though he would have keep his shutter speed high to overcome the subject movement due to the windiness.

We chatted for a bit about cameras and lenses as we are both Canon shooters. When I popped the question he had no problem at all with my request.

The light was challenging as it was mid-day. I had him stand between two poles with Butterfly World in the background. I was hoping for a bit of a side lit shot, but it didn't work out quite that way.

I took two shots with his shades on, then asked if he would mind removing them. He was OK with this, and I took a couple more frames.

We then talked shop some more and I learned he was local, from Boca Raton. We talked about places we like to shoot, and then we parted company.

I went with monochrome because for one thing, the color didn't really do anything for him. And because of the light, his face was very shaded. The Fine Art High Key preset in Silver Effects Pro 2 took care of that issue. I added a bit of grain to bring back some of the find detail in his face and beard.
