3335 - Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple ,Srirangapattinam

The Sri Ranganthaswamy temple in Srirangapatna, near Mysore is a temple dedicated to the Hindu God Ranganatha, a manifestation of Vishnu . This temple is located on an island in the river Kaveri.

Srirangapattana was capital of Mysore under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. The temple was built by the Ganga dynasty rulers of the area in the 9th century; the structure was strengthened and improved upon architecturally some three centuries later. Thus, the temple is a medley of the Hoysala and Vijayanagar styles of temple architecture.

Ranganatha is portrayed as reclining on the bed of Aadi Sesha. Sriranga pattinam is one of Pancharanga Kshetrams .These five temples are situated on the banks of Kaveri in south India. The following constitute Pancharanga Kshetrams: Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple,Sriranga pattinam, Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Srirangam, Sarangapani Temple,Kumbakonam, Sri Appakkudathan Temple, Trichy and Parimala Ranganatha Perumal Temple,,Indalur, Mayiladuthurai.
