2736 - Thiruvakarai temple

Thiruvakkarai temple is one of 276 Thirumurai saivite temples and one ofof Thondainadu sthalams . It is about 35km from Puducherry in the Tindivanam main road. The presiding deity is Pirai Chudiya Peruman (Chandramouliswarar) and consort is Vadivambikai. Here one can find shrines of Lord Siva, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Shakti together. Gnana Sambandhar visited this place.

 

Main attraction of the temple is Vakkira Kali.The Goddess has eight arms, with a slightly tilted posture, a rare one. According to the legend, the Goddess vanquished the demon Vakkrasura and hence she is called as Vakkrakaali.
