Fuck Off Earthlink!
After 10 years of service with EarthSTINK, I finally cancelled my account with them. Motherfuckers.
They started off as this kind of "earthy" indie internet provider, and grew into a bloated corporate menace. For the last couple of years, I have HATED having service with them, but was too lazy to do anything about it. One time, I was on the phone with them for THREE HOURS, at the end of which smoke was coming out of my ears and nostrils. I demanded that they give me discounts on my service for all of my troubles, and they did so... in fact I got free service for six months.
In recent years EarthSUCK outsourced all of their customer service to India. I have nothing but empathy for the underpaid workers in India, so this is not a rant about them. But outsourcing SUCKS. It saps jobs at home and egregiously exploits workers overseas.
The poor dude on the line today, when I called to cancel my account. I had to apologize to him several times for my short temper. He would ask me things like, "Please give me a reason for cancelling your account?" And I would say, "Because I just really dislike Earthlink, and I don't want to get into details." And then he would say, "But it would help if you gave more particular feedback." And then I would retort: "Sir, I am sorry you have to be caught up in all this, but I just really fucking hate Earthlink and I don't want to get into it. Please just cancel my account and don't ask me any more questions. I know you are just doing your job but this is one of the MANY reasons I hate Earthlink."
I did not want to cite customer service as one reason for hating Earthlink cuz the poor guy is just doing the job he was hired to do. Of course my incessantly terrible DSL connection is one of the main reasons I hate Earthlink. I don't know how many times I called their ass about that, and they would walk me through the same scripted shit, all to no avail.
Customer service dude also told me that hopefully the account was fully cancelled. I had to laugh sarcastically at this - "hopefully?" I did apologize to him for my sardonic cackle but WTF!
I FUCKING HATE EARTHLINK AND I HOPE THAT THE GREEDY CORPORATE MOTHERFUCKERS AT THE TOP DIE A VIOLENT DEATH.
