Rustic Roads 26 009

These images were made during a journey down Rustic Road 77 in Door County on May 9, 2017.

R-77 parallels Lake Michigan with a Coast Guard station and lighthouse at its southern end. Many types of trees including cedar, maple, white birch and pine line the route. A municipal park along R-77 marks the spot where Native Americans portaged from Lake Michigan to Sturgeon Bay.

Wisconsin's Rustic Roads system was created to preserve many of the state's scenic, lightly traveled country roads. Features of Rustic Roads include rugged terrain, native vegetation and wildlife, or open areas with agricultural vistas.
