Scorpion Fly
A very common insect, that often gets missed. Scorpion Flies are a bit of a scavenger, eating dead insects. Sometimes they pick carion off spider webs. They will eat live insects too. Although they do have wings, they seldom fly, preferring to crawl on vegetation. The male has 2 longer appendages at the end of the abdomen, giving it a scorpion like appearance. But these are to help grab on to and mate with the female and is not a stinger. Harmless but the stripes and orange colouration do make it an interesting insect.
