Rose Hill Mansion - The Office - Geneva

The Office - My son Jim is heading in to check out the information on the table. This room was used as the farm office where they handled the day to day business that went with the running of this large farm. The room had two outside entrances for the farm manager and other business guests, thus obviating the necessity of going through the house. The woodwork in the office is grained to resemble oak, which was a fashionable practice of the period when this house was built. In this room there are painted shades which were typical of the 1800s. To left of the fireplace is Robert Swan's Empire desk, a mahogany front-fall design with many cubbyholes and scroll legs. He used this desk for 40 years to preside over his great agricultural accomplishments of the Rose Hill farm. Behind the office was a woodshed from which wood could be carried across the verandah to the kitchen, The fireplace mantel, painted black, has Tuscan columns with a cast iron fireback inside the fireplace. The table in the center of the room is a mahogany Empire law office conference table with inserted green felt top. Jim thought it looked a little like a pool table.Off to the far left you can see a bit of a mahogany Empire style settee. Located on Route 96A in Geneva, NY.
