Oswego Canal - Lock 5 - Minetto
Looking north toward Lock 5 of the Oswego Barge Canal. As you travel the Oswego River you may notice that Lock 3 is followed by Lock 5. There is no Lock 4 on the Oswego Canal. The original plans actually did include a Lock 4, but as construction progressed, engineers determined the lock wasn't needed. At that time, all the plans and diagrams were done by hand; it was just simpler to leave out the lock, than relabel the others. The same situation occurred on the Erie which is missing Lock 31 and the Champlain has no Lock 10. This shot was taken from Route 48 in Minetto, NY.
