After the glue dried I added the first coat of gold paint.

 

While I started painting with the belt resting on newspaper, I found that I was basically gluing the belt to the paper with the paint. So it turned out to be easier to just hold the belt in my hand as I painted. Yeah, it was messy. But it washed off easily enough. It also had the advantage that my hand didn't suck the paint up the way the newspaper did. So a lot less actually went to waste.

Done
