Black Headed Gull in non-breeding plumage

Taken on 6 December 2023 and uploaded on 28 May 2025.

Taken using my (then) new (to me) Nikon D610: a pair of seagulls perched (?) on the fence at the east end of Gravesend's Gordon Promenade. The closer one is, I think, a Black Headed Gull in non breeding plumage and probably a grown up: I found all that on www, www.wwt.org.uk/ and also, elsewhere, that seagulls have nostrils, not only for breathing but excreting salt, allowing them to drink sea-water. Clever ! For those interested in nostrils, they are also, here, (seagulls) known as external nares: and why not, as Barry Norman would have said, if asked.

I can be corrected if I'm wrong, as I may be and often am.
