River Thames: a view towards Gravesend

Taken on 17 January 2017 and uploaded 19 December 2024.

The view as I walk back towards Gravesend after a wander along the south bank of the River Thames...

The concrete walls that protect the towns in the area (Gravesend, Northfleet, Tilbury) end a short distance from this point and much of the area here is flood plain. Apart from the electricity sub-station and pylon, there is an aggregates and mixing depot (Clubbs Sand & Gravel) on the right and the Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre to the left of the pylon...'the Met' carry out hostage and anti-terrorist training there and to the left of the rickety fence is a live ammunition firing range, while the buildings include a section of a mock-up town (where, for a while, the Boris Water Canon were kept *). Nearby and out of view, Denton Wharf and Gravesend itself...

* the idiot,Boris pretended to be Mayor Of London for a number of years before playing at being Prime Minister, all the while doing harm on behalf of his paymasters. He spent a lot of money on water-canon to fire at people he didn't like before selling them, at great loss, unused...
