River Thames: Magellan

Taken on 15 July 2016 and uploaded 10 December 2024.

The cruise ship Magellan leaving Tilbury's London International Cruise Terminal (the landing stage is visible...) and layin' down some smoke, possibly under the impression that to do so makes it all so much more thrilling. Really, the lone figure by the funnel should have been doing a bit of air guitar, pulling authentic gurning faces and striking heroic poses while noodling, "Smoke On The Water" playing on the disco sound system. Rock on, Tarquille.

Magellan was built in 1985 and sailed as Holiday and Grand Holiday, becoming Magellan (and 'sister' ship to Marco Polo) in 2015. Its owner went into administration in 2020, the ship was sold at auction and was 'intended' to be used as a floating hotel in Liverpool but was instead sold as scrap and taken to Alang, India, a massive scrapping site. It has, apparently, been scrapped.
