River Thames: James Prior

James Prior was a regular sight on the River Thames, sailing up as far as Deptford and beyond, and based in Colchester, Essex. It was one of a fleet of similar vessels, including Bert Prior and Mark Prior. James Prior was built in 1963 at Faversham.

 

There's no record of activity after 2019 on either Marine Traffic or Vessel Finder, the latter showing it at Wivenhoe, Essex, on the River Colne.

 

Described as motor barges, they had distinctive engine notes (a reassuring, to me, chug chug chug) and always looked good, whether in need of a paint job or having had one; also a more human size...
