Claggy
Over a period of years, work has been progressing to cover over a former landfill site at Tilbury Marshes, close to the north bank of the River Thames. I understand 'spoil' from digging the tunnels for London's Crossrail project has been brought down river by barge and moved over the site by lorries such as this and spread by diggers and earth movers (mechanical).
Admirably, the contractors maintained a footpath at the edge of the site, for people like me to walk through: in warmer, drier weather the dirt would turn to dust and close to places where the lorries were driving over it repeatedly, deep, fine dust that got into your shoes. When wet, it turned to mud, which could pull your shoes off.
Here is a lorry at the end of its day, parked up until the next day starts...it is claggy. Clagged up ? Covered in clagg ?
