River Thames: Impulse
The tug, Impulse, sailing down Gravesend Reach on the River Thames.
Impulse is a Port Of London Authority boat: the PLA has its headquarters in Gravesend, just up river of this, and a fleet of boats to carry out its various duties.
Impulse is a "steel pusher tug" according to its website - I assume the steel refers to its hull, pusher to the bracket fitted to its prow. It also has a crane on its deck, as well as a salvage pump...one of its tasks is to deal with driftwood on the river: it's not unusual to see massive poles washed up on the river bank, possibly parts of derelict structures, which could be dangerous to other vessels using the river. It was built in 1994 in Bristol.
