Run-Through

That's no ordinary Z. That's a "run-through" train. A product of the BNSF merger, this train and its crew originated at Clovis, NM on the old Santa Fe and they'll tieup in Childress, TX on the former BN. At the moment, despite the appearance of speed (thanks to the grain dust), they're approaching the end of restricted limits on the former-BN at Amarillo. As you can see, the conductor is getting things lined out with the dispatcher for their track warrant-controlled trip down the Red River Sub. In all likelihood, these fellas hail from Slaton, as the equity in the Clovis-based pool belongs primarily to them. Equity? Well, this traffic used to run via Slaton, Sweetwater, Brownwood and Dublin prior to the merger, so the work "belongs" to them.

(Aside: What do you do with an old scan that just isn't quite right? You run it through the software like crazy and cross your fingers. This one almost got posted in B&W.)
