Knight of Batons
Picture: Knight of Batons, Tarot of Bologna.
Knight of Batons
I am this man: brash, quixotic,
Grubbing up roots as if
All of life were weeds.
My horse has trampled them:
A trail of wilting dandelions
Thrashed into oblivion.
I am ever searching
For some Grail,
Though cups galore
Lie shattered in my trail.
Poem by Giles Watson, 2005; revised 2009.
