Turkish Lesson: Gise (pronounced Guichet) = Guichet = Ticket Office

Many Turkish words are from French. The Sultans were in love with the French culture and made sure that many words are imported from France.

A few examples:

Banlieu = banlieu

Shezlong = Chaise-longue

Viraj = Virage

Tretuvar = Trottoir

Plaj = Plage

Plato = Plateau

Kuafor = Coiffeur

Aksesuar = Accessoire

At one point there were 5000 words of French origin in the Turkish language.
