Jetset magic

With the departing Merlins behind, Culdrose based, Scottish Aviation Jetstream ZA111/CU565 gets airborne from RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.

Designed by Handley-Page the Jetstream was selected as a contender by the USAF as a new navigation trainer but when HP got into difficulties the production line stalled until Scottish Aviation stepped in.

However , while the USAF contract never happened, along with a highly a successful civilian sales book, the Jetstream was selected by both the RAF and the Royal Navy for twin engine and navigation training. The Saudi Air Force also aquired them for similar duties too and many small US airlines used them as feederliners.

All the RAF and Navy examples were retired with the latter ones replaced by the Beechcraft Avenger - a military version of their King Air.
