Raspberry blowers
Part of the UK's Royal Aircraft Establishment's jet fleet, on display at the 1992 IAT held at A&AEE Boscombe Down
ETPS operated Hunter T.7 XL564 is on the left - used for inverted spin training, then A&AEE's Hunter FGA.9 XE601 used for 'Chemical Warfare' training as previously posted, another Hunter T.7 XL563 of the Institute of Aviation Medicine, plus behind them there's the fin of one of the ETPS' three Hawk T.1's
Finally on the extreme right is the back end of an A&AEE Canberra.
All painted in the infamous MoD(PE)'s 'Raspberry Ripple' colours which swept through a large part of the RAE's fleet from the 1970's onwards
Prior to then most of their inventory operated in whatever their last service colours and squadron markings were, but
with the advent of this proposed 'uniformity', anything from the above, a Phantom, a couple of Buccaneers, several Jaguars, a Jet Provost, a Varsity, a Basset, many Andovers, a Tornado and even a couple of Mi-17 choppers. One-Elevens and Sea Kings, several Wessex and a Lynx plus the RAE transport fleet of Devons and subsequent Navajo Chieftains plus at least one Comet - all appeared in the red, white and blue
However, many escaped - a Britannia, a Lightning, an Argosy, some of the Canberras and other Comets appeared with variations - either with a red cheat line and fin or a blue cheat line so there was still some variations to spice up the glory years of the UK's Test and evaluation fleet
