Hunted Down
The Empire Test Pilots School's 'Raspberry Ripple' schemed Hawker Hunter T.7 XL564 on display at the 1983 IAT held at RAF Greenham Common
Used by the school especially for inverted spin recovery training, some fifteen years later, on the 6th of August 1998 XL564 suffered a throttle restriction when she was ten miles out from her base at A&AEE Boscombe Down
The pilot declared an emergency and attempted to return to base but failed to land and both crew ejected when the aircraft was 2 - 3,000 ft along the runway.
The Hunter crashed onto the airfield and caught fire with the crew thankfully being only slightly injured
The image is a panorama generated from a pair of scanned Agfa 50 transparencies taken using a Russian Zenith E camera.
