Yellow Bird of Paradise Blossoms
The Yellow Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia gilliesii) is putting forth bright yellow blossoms with long red stamens. Yellow Bird of Paradise is native to Argentina and Uruguay but is grown here because it does well in a low water environment. When it is not blooming it is sometimes mistaken for Mesquite because it is similar in shape and in the shape of its leaves.
We are 200 miles (322km) south of home and 5100 feet (1554m) lower in altitude. The desert plants are starting to bloom. Spring is here.
